Clear Crackle Spectrum Cone 5 Glaze 1187
Description
Spectrum's 1187 Clear Crackle cone 4/6 (1141°c-1243°c) glaze creates a raku-like surface. It is a ead free, A/P non-toxic clear crackle glaze. After the piece has been removed from the kiln and allowed to cool, the crackle pattern will form. A colored dye can be rubbed into the surface to emphasize the crackle pattern. Crackle glazes are not considered dinnerware safe due to the possibility of bacteria growth in the cracks.
This is a brush on glaze ready to be applied to bisque fired ware. They are all lead free. They are formulated to produce reactions during the firing cycle which give very interesting and beautiful effects. The final appearance of the glaze is dependent on firing temperature, glaze thickness and the composition of the clay body being used. The sample shown has 3 coats of glaze brushed on a white clay and is fired to cone 5 in an electric kiln.
Try overlapping glazes for new and interesting glaze results. Some of Spectrum Glazes are designed to move and shift in the glaze firing resulting in beautifully bright and layered looks.
