Description

Great for sculptural work and industrial ware, Saturation Metallic is a satin metallic black glaze that resembles steel and other metals.

The Potter's Choice glaze series was designed with the potter in mind! These stunning glazes add fluid colors and effects to smooth or textured ware, with optimal results at Cone 5/6. To use these glazes is to step into different ceramic glaze traditions of many cultures throughout history.

•Reduction Effects in Oxidation
•Variety of Colors and Surfaces
•Cone 5 / 6
•Limitless Layering Combinations!

Due to the powdered nature of the materials involved with the dry-mix dipping buckets of this product, their respective health information and labels differ from the brushing glazes.

*Note that all dry dipping glazes can be difficult to layer. Dipping glazes behave differently from brushing and they require thorough testing prior to layering full piece.

Mixing Instructions

Mixing Powdered Glazes:

  • Always wear a mask when mixing powdered glaze.
  • Gently add the glaze powder to water in a bucket, avoid adding all at once to prevent clumping.
  • Mix glaze using either a hand or electric whisk for 10 minutes
  • Sieve the liquid glaze using an 80 or 100 mesh sieve, working all the material through the sieve using a stiff brush.
  • The glaze mix should have a creamy viscosity, remember it’s easier to thin a glaze so begin with a thicker mix than you expect.
  • Although all our glazes are and non-toxic, it is essential in any pottery studio to minimise inhalation of silica dust. Always clean up with a damp sponge and if any dust is airborne, such as when mixing powder glazes.

Glazes that have a low clay content do tend to settle more quickly. We find that adding a small amount of calcium chloride liquid (one or two tablespoonfuls per gallon) is helpful. Do be careful however, not to overdo the calcium chloride as this can lead to a fault known as 'plucking' in which the glaze cracks and pulls away form the body during firing.
