Description

Steel double ended Asian-Style trimming and turning tool with one rectangular end and one curved end. Very sharp!

Made from oil hardened, tempered steel, this 8"-long durable, rust-proof trimming tool is ideal for professional potters. This tool is suitable for trimming thin and tight foot rings, which requires harder clay, because it is much more easily sharpened than commercial loop tools. To best trim the foot rings, you need to keep this tool as sharp as possible.

To sharpen the blade, use a fine file or a piece of sandstone, hold the trimming tool firmly and about 30 degree, and file the blade horizontally. Constantly check both sides of the blade with a finger tip to make sure it is straight. Do not use high-speed motor-driven grinding tools to trim as they may damage the blade.

This tool has a flat handle, approximately 6-1/2" long, between the two ends. The ends are bent perpendicular to the handle toward opposite directions, creating two flat steel pieces for you to work with.

"Good tool, very sharp, also square edge handy when removing wet cylinders from the wheel for neatening up before removal. Only downside might be when trimming edges of cylinders/pots in general because the tool is quite bendy, i.e.not rigid, it can leave chattering marks unless held very close to the blade in use - on the other hand that might be a very positive thing if you like chattering marks."
